Most hydraulic snubbers have a piston which is relatively unconstrained at low displacement rates. At high displacement rates, the piston “locks up,” meaning the force required to move the piston increases substantially, usually due to the closing of a valve.
| Bore (in.) | Rod Diameter (in.) | Max Recommended Loads (lb.) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 | 1 | 3,000 |
| 2.5 | 1.75 | 10,000 |
| 3.25 | 2 | 20,000 |
| 4 | 2.5 | 30,000 |
| 5 | 2 | 50,000 |
| 6 | 2.5 | 70,000 |
| 8 | 3.5 | 130,000 |
PT&P offers seven sizes with cylinder bores from 1 1/2 to 8 inches, and normal load range of 3,000 lbs to 130,000 lbs. All units include reservoirs with 6, 12, or 18-inch strokes. Remote reservoirs are also available.
Hydraulic snubbers are used on piping systems or equipment where thermal movement must be allowed but restraint is required during impulsive or cyclic disturbances. They are preferred for preventing damage from earthquakes, flow transients, or wind loads. Special settings are available to absorb continuous thrust from safety valve blow-off or pipe rupture. Mounting position, vertical or horizontal, should be specified for optimal operation.
Specify figure number, cylinder size, stroke, load, cold and hot piston settings, and piston end option. If clamps are required, provide nominal pipe size or special O.D. and clamp material. Include any optional features or special settings when placing an order.
